Newcastle-based train operator, Lumo, is helping to bring the award-winning show, I Ran With The Gang, back to the stage through a new partnership with Stageworks East West.

Described as ‘a night of nostalgia’ featuring 70s hits such as Bye Bye Baby, Shang-a-lang and Summerlove Sensation, I Ran With The Gang takes audiences through the life of Alan Longmuir, one of the Bay City Rollers' founding members. The first of the show’s comeback performances will take place at Covent Garden’s Stage Door Theatre in London between the 13th – 17th August, before travelling up to Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Customers travelling with Lumo on Monday 19th August will be able to enjoy a free onboard teaser performance on Lumo’s northbound 12:18 service from London King’s Cross to Newcastle, with the cast of I Ran With The Gang performing several of the band’s greatest hits during the journey.

With Lumo providing complimentary transport for the cast throughout their performances, the troupe will also be joining the 17:47 Lumo service from Newcastle to perform for customers heading to Edinburgh on the express train. All funds raised from the performances will go to The Charlie & Carter Foundation, Lumo’s newly revealed charity partner for 2024/25.

I Ran With The Gang was written and directed by award-winning playwright, Liam Rudden, and the show has gained much acclaim over the years with sold out performances globally from Edinburgh to Toronto.

Martijn Gilbert, Managing Director of Lumo, said: “We are thrilled to be supporting Stageworks East West to bring the iconic Bay City Rollers back to the stage with I Ran With The Gang. We are especially excited to offer our customers a unique experience with a free onboard performance at 125 miles per hour, bringing the joy and energy of the show directly to our customers. It's a wonderful opportunity to honour the legacy of Alan Longmuir and share the timeless music of the Bay City Rollers with a new generation of fans."

Liam Rudden, founder of Stageworks East West said: "We are delighted to have Lumo as our travel partner for I Ran With The Gang. The Bay City Rollers spent a lot of time travelling between Edinburgh and London, especially in their early days, and there's no doubt in my mind that, had Lumo existed in the Seventies, that's the way they would have travelled.

“We are also thrilled to be able to support Lumo's designated charity, The Charlie & Carter Foundation, an organisation that does such valuable work providing financial support to parents of seriously ill children with life-limiting conditions. Anything that raises its profile can only be a good thing."

Lumo services offer great value fares for travel between Edinburgh, Newcastle and London with tickets for travel now available until the end of the year. The vibrant blue trains are an increasingly popular way for people to enjoy a matinee day escape to any of the three cities served by the operator. The company has industry-leading performance results meaning day-trippers can arrive on-time for curtain-up and enjoy the stunning views of the East Coast Main Line when travelling to and from their matinee.

Sample fares for travel during December start from £35.90 one way between Edinburgh and London with fares from just £30.90 for tickets between Newcastle and London King’s Cross.
