Storm Eowyn - Friday 24th January

Published 23 Jan 2025

Last updated: Friday 24th January 09:15am

Due to Storm Éowyn and a severe weather warning of extreme high winds, focused in particular across the north of our route, we are expecting severe disruption throughout Friday 24th January.

THURSDAY 23rd JANUARY
We will be terminating the 20.27 Lumo service from London King’s Cross – Edinburgh at Newcastle this evening as Network Rail are now closing the route earlier than expected. Customers should therefore travel on earlier Lumo services if possible, however rail replacement transport is in place  through to Morpeth and Edinburgh or customers may choose not to travel and get a refund. Details of our services can be found on our timetable page.

FRIDAY 24th JANUARY
We strongly advise that you ‘Do Not Travel’ for if you are travelling north of Newcastle in either direction on Friday 24th January.

SATURDAY 25th JANUARY
1E80 05:36 Edinburgh to Newcastle service will not run.

REPLACEMENT TRANSPORT
There will be no road transport replacing our train services where these do not operate as we anticipate disruption to the road network also.

TRAVEL ON OTHER DAYS
Customers can use their Lumo tickets dated Friday 24th Jan on any Lumo services on Thursday 23rd Jan or Tuesday 28th January, fee free without having to change your ticket. This applies to customers completing their rail journeys wholly with one of the above TOCs as well as journeys with tickets for connecting operators. Please note Lumo services on these days will be very busy and customers may need to stand for part or all of their journey. We are unable to provide new seat reservations for services on Thursday or Monday but have created some additional unreserved seating on these services.

REFUNDS
Customers with tickets date 24th January (or for the 20.27 London King’s Cross – Edinburgh on 23rd January) are also able to claim a refund from their ticket retailer if they decide not to use their ticket on any alternative Lumo services.

USE OF LUMO TICKETS ON OTHER OPERATORS
Please note at present ‘Lumo only’ tickets will NOT be able to be used fee free on any other operator as their services are also likely to be affected UNLESS this is detailed on the day itself.
